10 Steps to a Successful Screening

Step 1:

Set a goal

How do you hope this screening will impact your community? What does success look like?

Step 2:

Identify your audience

Will the screening be open to the public, or will it be a private, invitation-only event?

Step 3:

Choose your films

Find 2-3 short films that speak to your audience and align with your goals. The Project UnLonely Films library is a great place to start!

Step 4:

Prepare to host

Send an invitation with a Zoom link or in-person meeting instructions. Make sure your meeting space is comfortable and accessible to all!

Step 5:

Promote the event

Share the who, what, where, when, and why of your event through social media posts, email newsletters, physical flyers, and more

Step 6:

Order snacks and drinks

Keep folks hydrated and nourished during the event. Identify any allergies or sensitivities in advance.

Step 7:

Screen the films

Encourage participants to notice their thoughts and feelings as they watch.

Step 8:

Have a conversation

Try open-ended questions like:

  • What caught your attention?
  • What did you relate to personally?
  • Did anything in the film change your understanding of loneliness, social connection, or belonging?
  • Would you recommend the film to anyone in your life? If so, what would you say to get their attention?

Step 9:

Document your success

Take photos of your screening! Tag us at @beunlonely to be featured on our Instagram.

Step 10:

Gather feedback

Use a physical or digital survey to learn how the screening went and make improvements for the future.

Email [email protected] to let us know what films you used and how many people attended!
