“I decided to tell the story early in the pandemic. I had the idea that people were disassociating from each other and that there seemed to be an added layer of fear and tension in how we were interacting. I also think that the moment of the Black Lives Matter [movement] came out of a feeling that so many people experienced… not feeling like they were seen or that they mattered. I did a little illustration of people with messages on people’s masks and I shared it with friends and got a very positive response; people said that was exactly how they felt in this moment – from that I decided to write a script for the film about an Artist who [creates] a project of kindness in his community. Initially I was going to cast an actor and make it a traditional narrative film but I met Bourn Rich the artist …and he was such a lovely person and a talented artist that I asked him if he would be interested in collaborating.” The film is about how we see one another for our humanity and shared experiences. It’s about leading with love and kindness to make the change we hope for in the world.”

Wonderful – the power of art!!
YES I have always believed in it – helped myself through drawing daily – left hand activates right side of the brain! Helped kids express traumatic experience – without words. Cried when seeing people stick words to the mask… break silence!
He put on his YOU MATTER mask — and I put on mine! I packed it for this hostel stay, where I’m watching these films, thinking somehow I might need it — hadn’t seen it in years, and a friend encouraged me to wash it and wear it — what are the ODDS?? Synchronicity unlonelies me. We are different, and we are all connected. Right side of the brain is relational! YOU MATTER.
Touching & incredibly refreshing.
I have been watching the videos offered by Project Unlovely for quite a while . . . and this one hit me in a spot I didn’t even know I still had. The utter genius, simplicity of form, and wisdom offered by this short film moved me to tears and inspired me to possibly try to connect with people with the same love, compassion, and humility that Bourn expressed. Thank you!
